What does "huzza" mean?

"Huzza" is a sailor's shout of exultation appearing in the 1570's, and seems to be related to the word 'hurrah'. Its etymology is uncertain, with the OED claiming that is it formed "within English, by conversion" and that it may be related to the sound made when hoisting a sail or anchor. A 1682 translation of the poem Le Lutrin by Nicolas Boileau-Despreaux includes the word in the line "Oh see (says Night) these Rogues sing Huzza! proud Of sure success, under my favouring Shroud."
