Where does the word "replete" come from?
"Replete"
comes from the Latin re "again" and
plere "to fill." The eventual meaning "completely full" occurs by the late 1300s. There is also a
noun version of the word which means "a type of worker ant which stores honeydew and nectar within its body" used by Henry Christopher McCook in his 1877 work
Mound-making Ants of the Alleghenies : Their Architecture and Habits.
